Block dimming is a process of intelligently adjusting LED brightness to reduce power consumption, heat, and to increase the contrast ratio on an LCD display. LG-MRI displays dynamically adjust the LED backlight array based on the content on the LCD screen. For example, when the display is showing a scene with a bright blue sky and silhouettes of big, leafy trees, the LEDs behind the images of the trees are dimmmed or turned off because they’re mostly black anyway. On average, dynamic block dimming on LG-MRI displays reduces power consumption by 40% and contributes to doubling the lifespan of the LED backlight.
