Outdoor LED displays are best used for long-distance viewing. They’re great for elevated billboards on highways and buildings, but they’re not so great for close up viewing because there is a physical limit (pixel pitch) to how closely LEDs can be positioned next to one another.

LCD displays don’t have this pixel pitch problem the way that LEDs do so they can produce ultra-high definition content that is great for close-up viewing. That’s why LCD displays are best suited for applications where content will be displayed at eye-level or within touching distance, like a wayfinding kiosk in a shopping mall, or an advertising display in a bus shelter.
